Cultivation of microalgae at high-density with pretreated liquid digestate as a nitrogen source: Fate of nitrogen and improvements on growth limitations

چکیده
A liquid digestate rich in ammonium nitrogen (8.3 g L−1) was collected from an agricultural biogas plant and supplied to microalgae cultures as their only source. Chlorella vulgaris cultivated for up 21 days, both under controlled conditions laboratory-scale glass-column photobioreactors well outdoors open pilot-scale thin-layer photobioreactor. By systematically addressing issues associated with the use of (i.e., turbidity, nutrient imbalance, toxicity, acidification), were robustly at a high density achieved net biomass dry weight between 10 14 L−1, productivity 0.93 L−1 d−1 (93% maximum expectation). Cultivation photobioreactor areal productivities 7 m−2 d−1. Water acidification due uptake by prevented addition NaOH. detailed mass balance showed that, despite removal efficiencies (approximately 3% remained medium), assimilated 40–60% and, consequently, large amount lost atmosphere.

Cultivation of bacteria producing polyamino acids with liquid manure as carbon and nitrogen source.
Poly(gamma-D-glutamic acid) (PGA)-producing strains of Bacillus species were investigated to determine their ability to contribute to reducing the amount of ammonium nitrogen in liquid manures and their ability to convert some of the ammonium into this polyamino acid as a transient depot for nitrogen. Organisms that do these things should help solve the serious environmental problems which are ...

Sustainable Cultivation of Microalgae using Diluted Anaerobic Digestate as a Nutrient Medium Algae-Based Systems
In this study, the cultivation of two microalgal species using anaerobic digestate as a nutrient medium was investigated. Several pretreatment methods were applied to the anaerobic digestate including hydrogen peroxide treatment, filtration using polyester filter bags, and supernatant extraction; the latter proved to be the simplest and most effective method in reducing the turbidity and COD of...
متن کاملA novel horizontal photobioreactor for high-density cultivation of microalgae.
Microalgae are a promising source of biofuels and bioproducts, as they consume CO2 to grow, multiply quickly, and can be cultivated in wastewater and on marginal land. Development of low-cost and high-efficiency microalgal cultivation systems is important to the cost-competitiveness of algae. A floating horizontal photobioreactor (HBR) was developed that is inexpensive and scalable, as it is ma...
